Triciclo was estabilished in 1996 as a centre for reusing, recycling and enviromental education in order to promote the reuse of discarded goods such as forniture, clothes, books, toys, kitchenware, etc.
At the moment two of major units are working. We clear cellars, attics, flats ad different premises and collect used materials and goods: in Torino such goods are then selected, leaned, repaired and finally sold at our second hand market, while in Grugliasco some pieces of forniture are restored in our carpentry.
Triciclo supplies the pubblic with information on issues dealing with waste and recycling and collaborates with teachers of primary and secondary schools in awakening students to enviromental problems.
We are in touch with similar centres of other european countries and we follow a project in Africa, where Triciclo is sponsoring a cooperative of women that works in the north of Benin collecting organic matter to make compost. As whole, Triciclo gives both full time and part time job to eighteen people and receives a valuable help by several volunteers too.
The clearings, the second hand market and the carpentry are run by social cooperative.
by the italian law, a cooperative is judjed to be a social one if at least 30 of its labourers comes from marginal classes.
This way disabled people, ex addicts, prisoners, ex alcoholics are able to work in triciclo.
In 2001 the United Nations Enviroment Programme has officially recognized the enviromental achievements of Triciclo by electing the organization to its Global 500 Roll of Honour.
